How to replace a drain pump on a washing machine
When your washing machine does not drain water during the wash cycle, there may be a problem with the pump. There are some signs to look for to be sure of the source of the problem. The drain pump may be broken if you cannot hear it draining. The machine makes a faint humming sound when the appliance is in the spin cycle. If the water does not drain during the wash cycle, then the pump needs to be replaced.
In this case, the washing machine fills as usual. The water is drained, and the spin cycle continues to function normally. You need to check some other parts to be sure of the source of the problem. The pump is located at the bottom of the washing machine and is used to drain the water. The liquid drains into the drain hose, then is discharged into the dirty drain.
There is a possibility that there is a blockage in the pump filter. It is possible that the drain hose is also clogged. It is better to check them before proceeding with replacing the pump. If the reason for the inability to drain the water is not a blockage in some of the elements of the washing machine, prepare some of the necessary tools for dismantling.

The problem could also be due to broken fins that require replacement. A leak from the unit, on the other hand, usually indicates that a more complex fault has occurred. It may have nothing to do with the pump. However, if such a fault occurs, it is better to replace the unit.
You need to be careful to remove the pump without damaging the machine. Here are the tools you will need:
- New drain pump for the respective model Washing Machine ;
- Screwdriver;
- Pliers;
- A container for draining the water.
Step 1 – Safety Tip
First disconnect the appliance from the power supply before starting disassembly.
Step 2 – Drain the water
You need to drain the water from the drum. To do this, you will need a drain pan prepared in advance. You can use the hose located near the filter, or unscrew the filter to drain the water as well.
Step 3 – Remove the top and back panels of the machine
Use a screwdriver to do this. Tilt the washing machine to the side. Note that the drum is suspended inside the appliance. Therefore, be careful when tilting the washing machine.
Step 4 – Remove the old pump
Disconnect the cables, remove the hose and the clamp from the pump. You can do this using pliers. Move the clamp further down the drain hose, which will allow it to move more freely. Remove the pump by releasing the clamp and turning it counterclockwise. Then pull it out. Use a towel to soak up any remaining water.
Step 5 – Install the new pump
This process is the same as the previous one, but in reverse order. Place the new pump in place and turn it clockwise. Then install the remaining parts that you removed during the previous step. Using the pliers, insert the clamp and reinsert the cables.
Maintenance and replacement of the pump are not difficult. In fact, dismantling can be done in about an hour. You only need tools and knowledge of the device of the washing machine to cope with the replacement. But you should know that a guarantee for quality dismantling can only be given by an authorized service center.
Always trust experienced professionals who will replace the old pump and install the new one. Dismantling, if you do it yourself, will save you a lot of nerves and time. But the complete maintenance and repair of the device, carried out by technicians, guarantee its trouble-free functioning. This way you will also protect it from the emergence of a new problem with its future operation.
