Why does the hood bring back the smell of cooking from the neighbors?
Kitchen appliances are a necessity, bringing more convenience to those living in apartments. The trouble-free operation of the various utensils provides more coziness and comfort, making it easier for the housewife to cook delicious food or when celebrating family holidays.
The importance of the hood in kitchen duties is often underestimated. Until the moment when you start to smell a freshly prepared meal coming from the neighbors. The role of the hood is to clean the air in the dining room from the fumes formed during cooking. But when the appliance starts to leak odors from neighboring homes, you need to take some measures in a timely manner.
Hood problems with the withdrawal of steam occur for the following reasons:
Wrong size of connected air duct |
Broken check valve (blocked open) |
Just like any other household appliance, range hoods need regular maintenance to keep them from becoming too noisy and to continue to work properly. If you have neglected the appliance's maintenance for some time, the likelihood of having to replace one of its components increases. Only in this way will you be able to guarantee the quality operation of the range hood in the future.
There can be several reasons for the return of odors from neighbors to your home. Among the most common are dirty filters, as well as poor-quality operation of the fan motor, which does not rotate enough. Another reason may be a return air valve that does not close by itself after turning off the hood and remains open. The most unpleasant option is a clogged chimney. And this will cost you a lot of time and nerves.
Hoods are divided into two main types. One of them is built-in, the other is not, there is no change in operation. Both types of hoods are available with carbon filters. With their help, the air is purified, sucked in and pushed into the chimney. When these filters become clogged, the ability of the appliance to suck in the fumes and odors released during cooking is significantly reduced.
Most models of hoods available on the market are not that expensive. The exception is built-in appliances. The most expensive parts in the hood are the turbines. When a defect appears in them, it is better to buy a new device. Such a breakdown is not so common, although it also leads to the problem of the smell returning from neighboring apartments.
Every hood has a flap located at the top. When the device is started, small flaps are opened at the top of the outlet, and when the air flow stops, they close. The hoods offered in most cases have two sizes of outlet flap – ф120 and ф150.
One of the reasons for the smell coming back from the neighbors is choosing an appliance that is of a different size than the chimney. If the hood has a 120 mm valve, and is placed on a wall where the outlet is 100 mm, then cooking fumes coming from the other apartments around you will certainly enter your kitchen, or it is more likely that the appliance will operate with the same power at all levels, that is, there will be no change in air suction.
