The dryer display shows different running times for the same program
Sometimes a rather annoying problem occurs with heat pump dryers. It is related to displaying different operating times for the same program. In most cases, this does not indicate a fault in the appliance.
The duration of the working program is calculated according to various parameters. These can be: room temperature, initial humidity of the clothes placed for drying, as well as the volume and type of laundry. The time is adjusted according to the actual duration of the working cycle.
The remaining minutes until the end of the program start to vary. The reason may lie in the use of the Auto-Dry option, also called Auto Sensor. The problem is due to the malfunction of the sensor that detects the moisture level in your clothes. It adjusts the drying time.
The automatic drying system takes into account the level of humidity in the drum. The laundry touches the sensor, and the duration of the working program changes. This is completely normal and the differences can be 5 minutes more or less at the beginning of the cycle. Don't worry, the dryer is functioning properly and such differences are considered completely normal.

As the program progresses, the actual time will become more accurate under normal load conditions. However, the amount of laundry occasionally touching the sensor can still affect the cycle reading. Another reason for the detector to not work properly is the need for calibration. With the correct setting, it will also give correct readings to the main control board. Otherwise, the dryer will add time even when it shouldn’t.
The moisture sensor can be cleaned with a small amount of alcohol. Use a clean cloth to remove any detergent buildup on the device. Most modern dryers work with apps. You can set the desired settings in them. In the app of such devices, use the “Time synchronization” option to turn the function on or off.
In the menu you can also specify your correct time zone. This is very important for the correct functioning of the appliance. If the time zone is not set correctly, then the time synchronization must be turned off and set manually. If your dryer continues to add time to the operating cycle, there is probably a problem with the drying function.

Other reasons for adding minutes to the cycle include a clogged vent or a faulty thermostat. If there is any blockage, the dryer will not process the air effectively, preventing it from heating up properly.
Check for a similar problem by holding the door handle and running a cycle at a low temperature. Then place a piece of paper under the lint filter. If the appliance does not suck it in, it means there is an airflow problem.
Here are some of the main reasons that lead to different operating times being displayed on the dryer display for the same program:
Incorrect time setting |
Contaminated moisture detector |
Clogged ventilation hole |
Uncalibrated sensor |
